OK, so K-pop aka Korean pop music has been a thing for a while. I recall seeing a Family Guy episode where King of the Pervs Quagmire? and the gang end up going to South Korea where Q used to live for a stint. He apparently was a very popular actor on a Korean soap or some such. Everyone there remembers him and the celebrity pull starts afresh. He reconnects with his old flame and her cat and extended family. At some point they make a joke about how everyone dreams of at least once being in a kpop music video and then they’ll die happy – just like Q’s former love interest’s grandmother does.
I was actually doing a google search for some unrelated thing when a video link to aPink’s My My song came up. Intrigued I ended up clicking on it and the rest is history.
I’ve watched/listened to other kpop bands on youtube but I still find something awesome about aPink that I don’t quite see in the others I’ve watched. The darn videos are so hypnotic – they suck you in and you can’t take your eyes off it. There must be some serious science behind the catchy tunes and the careful editing and whole video production that belies the complexity and sophistication that comes across so naturally and seemingly straight forward… which reminds me of an OLD Simpsons episode where the gang goes to Japan and all get messed up and hypnotized by the kids commercials on the hotel TV.
I figured it’s been quite some time since I’ve posted anything here and I thought I’d share my newfound love of Kpop. Specifically, the all girl band aPink. I haven’t been thrilled at the state of things on the internet for a while now. Annoyed that I like so many others were duped into thinking Net Neutrality was actually FOR the people, for neutrality, for freedom, etc. But instead, like most good cons, it was in name only and named for the opposite of what it truly was in order to get support and trick the public. If you REALLY want to support freedom and equality of the internet, start by going to FreeOurInternet.org and get educated 😀
After you do, go ahead and immerse yourself into the exciting, happy, colorful world of aPink.
